Melanotan 2

Melanotan 2 is a synthetic version of a hormone your body makes called alpha-MSH, which signals skin cells to produce more melanin — the pigment responsible for skin color and UV protection. It was originally developed by researchers looking for a way to protect fair-skinned people from sun damage and skin cancer. Along the way, the researchers found it had two other major effects — on sexual function and appetite — that turned out to define how most people actually use it.

The tanning effect is the most visible result. Over a few weeks of use, most people develop a deep, even tan across the whole body without extended sun exposure. The tan looks natural and builds gradually. A secondary benefit is that the skin becomes more responsive to UV light, producing its own protective melanin more readily — meaning users are less likely to burn.

The sexual function effects were discovered early in the research process and are pronounced in both men and women. In men, it reliably increases arousal and can cause erections. In women, users report heightened sensitivity and desire. A modified version called PT-141 (bremelanotide) was eventually developed specifically for sexual dysfunction and received FDA approval for hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women.

Appetite suppression is the third major effect. Many users notice significantly reduced hunger during a cycle, which combined with increased fat mobilization makes it useful during a fat loss phase. The side effects — particularly nausea and flushing — are common early on but usually pass within the first week as the body adjusts. Starting with very small doses and building up slowly is standard practice.
